The toy ban was a huge victory for those who want change in the food supply. I'm happy to see it was done. It really restores my faith in the efforts of a few to stand up to big corporation bullying.

One thing I noticed (and I know you noticed it, too, because you mentioned it in your first sentence). Outlawing the toys in a Happy Meal was picked up by the journalists of the nation as the "Happy Meal BAN."

As well, every time I want a "man on the street" opinion, I ask my father. Here's what he said about this issue, "So, I suppose yer one of dem people who wants to tell us we can't eat fast food anymore."

Ominous, if that's what the "man on the street" thinks.

And they think that because the communication about this issue has been mischaracterized as "government wants to control you."

This coalition needs a PR expert, stat.

The misnaming (BAN) needs attention as soon as possible. Naming and defining are powerful ways to turn public opinion. It would be a shame if the hard work that went into this effort was wasted just because one person chose to distort the message.

Luring kids to eat unhealthy food seems so clearly wrong. Well done on fighting so hard to make a change, but I think common sense should have stepped in long ago.

Meanwhile, I'm still fighting the lollipops at the school canteen. I've researched whether it's possible to provide kids with healthy, enticing food and still make a profit and it certainly is. No sympathy for McDonald's, now they can put their might behind developing healthy options - in San Francisco at least!

Congratulations San Francisco! Let us hope that this DOES spread, quickly, to other cities. It is immensely gratifying to see the people able to overcome the vast resources of the lobbyists and food industry. This is REAL democracy in action. Hallelujah!

I am worried that this will galvanize the lobbyists and food industry, so I hope those who organized to get this accomplished are ready and armed to help other cities fight this battle successfully.

Thank you Ms. Simon, again, for keeping us posted--it goes a ways to make up for some of the election defeats (especially here in Wisconsin where my blue state turned ugly red and we have lost Russ Feingold in the senate).
